The following is a timeline for residents and faculty for the fulfillment of the residency research requirements

TIME POINT WHO ACTION
Residency Year 1
June Resident Meet with VC for Research during orientation to discuss research possibilities and early involvement in research
June Resident Complete Human Subjects http://www.washington.edu/research/hsd/courses/
July-May Resident Meet with R1 residents individually during the EVAT period to discuss research.
Residency Year 2
June Resident Attend presentation from Basic Research Faculty at Resident Orthopaedic Workshop. 
July-December Resident Identify potential mentor and project
January Resident Submit 1 page summary of proposed project to VC for Research who will review and provide feedback.
March Resident Present project to a Monday morning Research Grand Rounds. This will allow input from colleagues and faculty.
April Resident Internal Resident Research Grant competition opens April 1.  Awards announced by April 30th.
Residency Year 3
Children's Rotation Resident 1 day per week Research
June Resident Research Day presentations.  Usually Year 4 Residents, but occasionally Year 3 Residents present.
July Resident Resident Research Grant recipients must submit external grant application to support their work.
Residency Year 4
June Resident Research Day presentations.
August Resident Must submit abstract to either Orthopaedic Research Society or AAOS
January Resident Attend Orthopaedic Research Society meeting or AAOS Meeting
